Greetings

Welcome to Good Tidings Assembly!

We are happy to have you visit our site.
If you are looking for a lively and comtemporary Church, you have found the place of worship!

We are a family church with great worship and relevant teaching.
Our Sunday Morning Celebration Service caters for the whole family with a special programme for the kids at the Sunday school. Our Church also attracts both the seniors, young adults and the teenagers who enjoy our dynamic programmes specially designed for the different age groups. We also run groups for men, women and home fellowships.

We believe as Christians we are to serve the community both locally and internationally. We affiliate our Church with social works through supporting a drug rehabilitation centre and a home for the special needs. We also participate in world missions, planting churches, building lives and training leaders.

In Good Tidings Assembly there are plenty of room for you to serve and take part in with your family. We welcome you to join us us and see what the Lord is doing in our Church!

Hospitality and service with a smile

Duties of Church Ushers

1. What is the role of the usher?
Greeting people in a warm way makes them feel good about their presence in church.
Be a great welcomer to the house of God. In us the hospitality of God is seen. Our role is important because we are serving the Lord. We must welcome people to the Lord’s House with a smile and a warm handshake that speaks more than a thousand words.

2. As an usher.

Dress smartly and appropriately. You are part of a team. Never be attired in T-shirts, jeans or revealing clothes. Wear shoes and not slippers. Men should wear long-sleeves and a tie.

3. Ushers must be present half an hour before the commencement of the service.
a) Wear your badge to identify your role.
b) Ensure that bulletins and handouts are properly arranged.

4. Before the service:
a) The ushers station themselves at the entrance door of the Church and at the entrance of the Sanctuary.
b) Greet with a smile when the worshippers arrive and hand out the bulletin. Greet saying “Good Morning, brother” or “Good Morning, sister”.
c) Help the elderly, parents with many little children, the handicapped, etc.
d) Extend to visitors and first timers, pin a ribbon on their clothes. Have them write down their names in the Guest Book and the visitor’s Form, give it to the Head Usher who in turn give the names to the service director to welcome the newcomers

5. Inside the Sanctuary:

a) Concentrate on the people. Seat the people as near the front pews as it seem appropriate. The back seats can then be filled with late comers. But if people insist on seating in certain places let them be.
b) Be alert to available seats and be ready to lead worshippers to the vacant seats. Approach worshippers with the phrase “May I show you to a seat?”.
c) Do not seat people during prayers, scripture readings, the holy communion. Have them stand quietly at the back until a time when they can be seated without distraction.
d) Stop people from moving around once the preaching starts as a mark of honor to God.

6. During the Service:
a) The ushers seat themselves at the back pew (last pew). Concentrate on the service in progress.
b) When tithes and offering is called for, the ushers go toward the Alter with offering bags. Go to the right of the aisle. Pass on the offering bag and follow the offering bag as it moves along and help to pass it on when there is a “gap” in the congregation. The side that finishes first should wait for the other.

After the Service:
a) After service many people will leave for home, but there will be others who will stay behind for fellowship. The sensitive ushers will seek out the “shy” or “lonely” person, who is in a corner or standing/sitting alone. Reach out to them and introduce to other person.
b) After the service is over ushers are to check the pews and remove anything that may have been left behind and hand over the lost items to the church office.

Important Note:

a) If you are unable to carry out your duty please inform the head usher early. And/or request one of your members to stand –in for you.
b) Usher at the entrance to the church should consists of a brother and a sister, where possible
c) Ushers at the entrance of the Sanctuary should be the one to collect the tithes and offerings
d. Ushers to be ready for altar ministry to assist the members and newcomers. Prepare altar cloth and anointing oil. Pray alongside with the person
